Purpose of Position: Primarily responsible for purchasing of stock and non-stock MRO items, services and other assigned commodities.       


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Buying and commodity management of MRO materials and services in a cost efficient and value added manner, for the existing requirements and future business plans. Develop, update, and implement effective sourcing strategies to ensure a continuous supply of good quality, competitively priced services, materials, equipment, tools, and spare parts, etc..
  • Cultivate productive supplier relationships that deliver the highest total value.
  • Partner closely with internal customers to understand and deliver innovative MRO solutions.
  • Work with commodity / production buyers to maximize supplier opportunities and synergies across MRO and production opportunities
  • Identify and assess Suppliers, determine their capabilities and qualify towards Active Exhaust’s systems compliance, for company’s existing and future needs.
  • Obtain and maintain Suppliers’ valid documentation as per Active Exhaust’s systems requirements.
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal departments, obtain requirement details and specifications for issuance of RFI, RFP & RFQs in accordance to company’s procedures.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes for comparative presentation, award decisions, and issue purchase orders in compliance of company’s procedures. Negotiate to obtain the best value, consistent with specified engineered standards of quality, safety, minimum lead time and on-time delivery. Follow-up with vendors for order confirmations, shipping schedules and timely deliveries.
  • Maintain contacts with the Markets or Suppliers to keep Management fully advised of market status, trends, availability and projected performance.                                               
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement of department/plant operations and strive to meet or exceed Cost Reduction Goals.                                                                                                             
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.                                                                                        

Educational Requirement:

  • Relevant post-secondary education
  • Purchasing certification/designation preferred

Qualifications and Experience:  

  • 6-8 years of similar experience in a manufacturing environment; metal fabrication preferred, with minimum 5 years of MRO purchasing.
  • Experience in VMI, strategic sourcing, commodity management, RFI, RFP, RFQ, supplier assessment, cost /pricing analysis and control, negotiations, management of customer nominated suppliers, Shipping / INCO terms.  
  • Knowledge of MRP environment. Previous Syspro experience a definite asset.
  • Ability to independently and successfully manage and prioritize in a fast paced work environment.         
  • Solid understanding of accepted purchasing principles and practices.                     
  • Working knowledge of inventory management methods and vendor negotiation.
  • Knowledge and experience to customize and administer supply / purchase contracts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
